Kendra let her in. They sat at the little kitchen table where they'd had a thousand late-night talks since high school.

"Two years ago," Kendra said, "you borrowed eight thousand dollars from me. For your mom's surgery. Remember?"

Jasmine looked at the wall.

"Your mom never had surgery, Jas. I called her last month to check on her. She had no idea what I was talking about."

"I was going to pay you back."

"With Andre's money," Kendra said. "After the divorce. You told Brianna the same thing. You figured we'd never compare notes."

Jasmine didn't say anything.

"I didn't film you to hurt you," Kendra said. "I filmed you because I was sitting right there, listening to you brag about using a man who treated you like a queen. And it hit me. You'd been using me too."

Jasmine got up and left.

The divorce was final in March. She kept her car, her jewelry, and her $4,312. Andre didn't ask for anything back. He didn't have to.

She moved into a one-bedroom apartment and got a job at a department store. Her old friends stopped calling. Her Instagram, once all yachts and designer bags, went quiet.

A year later she spotted Andre at a coffee shop downtown. He was sitting with his mother, laughing at something she said.

He saw her too. He gave her a polite little nod, the kind you give someone you used to know.

She thought about walking over. Saying sorry. Explaining.

She paid for her coffee and left instead.

Some people say Andre was cold for hiding everything. Some say he was smart. His mother says he just saw who his wife really was before she ever said it out loud.

And Jasmine? She paid Kendra back. Every dollar, in small payments out of her department store checks.

It took her eleven months.

So was Andre wrong to protect himself like that? Or did Jasmine get exactly what she deserved?

Who was wrong?
